A professional energy audit goes into great detail to assess your home’s energy use. We will do a room-by-room examination of the residence, as well as a thourough examination of past utility bills. Audit’s can include blower door test and a thermographic scan. We use equipment to detect sources of energy loss, such as blower doors, infrared cameras, furnace efficiency meters, furface thermometers, moisture meters and more.

We will be gathering information about your house and reporting to you actions you can take to reduce your home’s energy use while increasing comfort of the living space. The right mix of improvements to your home will depend on the age and quality of current equipment and your energy goals. We will provide a roadmap with action steps along with quotes for our services as well as trusted resources to provide solutions outside of our expertise. Of course you may also decide to do some of it yourself.
While a professional home energy audit is the best way to determine where your home is losing energy and where you can save, you can conduct your own simple but diligent walk-through and spot many problems in any type of house. The “do-it-yourself” audit will not be as thorough, but it can help you pinpoint some of the easier areas to address. When walking through your home, keep a checklist of areas you have inspected and problems you found. This list will help you prioritize your energy efficiency upgrades.

We start by checking the quality of the air inside your home. While that 30 minute test is running we will inspect the house inside and out and get model numbers for major appliances. We will ask you about your energy use habits and goals and then discuss our findings and solutions. We will also discuss if our advanced audit is reckomended.

How long will the audit take?
The first thing we do is start our 30 minute air quality test. While that is running we will inspect the inside and outside of the property. We will spend a few minutes going over our findings and what the next steps are to solve any potential problems. Should take no more than 45 minutes.
Do I need to be home during audit?
Yes we need somebody home so we can get access to the major appliances as well as the attic. We will also have a short meeting to discuss findings and solutions.
Is there a cost to the audit?
The audit is free however there may be a need for more advanced assessments in which we provide the advanced audit. These advanced options will be discussed during our discovery phase in the first audit. One example would be finding out the exact amount of draw and usage of appliances in considering replacement savings.
Why are you taking pictures of my appliance tags?
We look at both the start up energy needed as well as the run energy which is determined in kilowatts. This data can be used to determine appliance efficiency as well as the kilowatts to be replaced by solar, batteries or a generator.
Why would I want an advanced audit?
Getting ore detailed analysis will help you determine many decisions from, adding insulation, replacing appliances or even sizing a solar system or generator.
